G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra pt. 5 — Single-Carded (C1 W2-3, C2 W3)

August 30, 2009

More carded figures from The Rise of Cobra line of G.I. Joe toys. It’s amazing that in a 2-month period, 37 figures spread over 2 collections and 3 waves have been released. I have 34 of them and only missing Wallace “Ripcord” Weems v2 [Reactive Impact Armor], Conrad “Duke” Hauser v3 [Delta-6 Accelerator Suit] and Storm Shadow v3 [Arctic Threat]. This gallery finishes off the remainder of Collection 1 Wave 2, Collection 2 Wave 3 and introduces 4 of the 7 figures available from Collection 1 Wave 3.

Collection 1 Wave 2
• Snake Eyes v2 [Paris Pursuit]
• Storm Shadow v2 [Paris Pursuit]

Collection 1 Wave 3
• Baroness v2 [Paris Pursuit]
• Para-Viper [Cobra Paratrooper]
• Rex “The Doctor” Lewis [Chief Experimental Doctor]
• Snake Eyes v3 [Arctic Assault]

Collection 2 Wave 3
• General Clayton “Hawk” Abernathy [Attack on the G.I. Joe Pit]
• G.I. Joe Pit Commando A [Covert Military Force]
•  G.I. Joe Pit Commando B [Covert Military Force]

G.I. Joe — Wave 12: Dreadnok Ripper — Dreadnok

December 2, 2008

Dreadnok Ripper — Front DREADNOK RIPPER — Dreadnok

  • Body/Accessories — Dreadnok Ripper (cp w2)

Nothing new here since it is just a repaint of the comic-pack figure in uhm, more comic-y colors. It’s cool to get him on a card, but still all in all rather dull.

Figure: **
Excitement Factor: No stars

G.I. Joe — Wave 12: Cobra Diver — Underwater Trooper

November 12, 2008

As part of the case I ordered online, I received an extra Underwater Trooper, so here I present loose photos of the Cobra Diver.

He is basically a repaint of Lt. Torpedo (w6) with red dominating the color scheme. He has the same accessories as Torpedo with the exception of his sidearm, his rifle — which comes from the Arctic Assault Scrap-Iron (Extreme Conditions Pack #2), and the inclusion of a heavy water element cannister which can be combined with the M.A.S.S. Device.

This figure is a great troop builder even if it is a little underwhelming. Still, in comparison with the other figures in this wave, it tops the Cobra Trooper with red face-mask/sigil. Hopefully, in the near future, I’ll be able to get loose photos of the rest of the figures in this wave.

G.I. Joe Vehicle w3— A.W.E. Striker (Desert) w/Leatherneck

November 9, 2008

This marks the general release of the A.W.E. Striker as opposed to the Target Exclusive that came out earlier in the year. This time, the vehicle gets a new paint job to reflect a desert theme, and comes packed with Leatherneck in his Special Missions: Brazil deco.

Leatherneck reuses several parts from other figures, listed below:

  • head – Gung-Ho (5p 1)
  • torso/webgear – Buzzer (w2)
  • arms – Duke (5p 1)
  • legs – Snow Job (w5)

G.I. Joe Comic Packs — Wave 6 (pt.1: MOC)

October 31, 2008

It’s nonstop madness as more Joes have come out this month than in the last year. My savings further dwindle away to nothingness, but here I am bringing you the latest wave of the G.I. Joe comic two-packs. Full review of the figures to follow.

G.I. Joe — Wave 10 (pt.2: review)

October 27, 2008

So, within a month of Wave 9’s release comes Wave 10 of this excellent line. Hasbro keeps offering interesting character selections; here they keep things fresh by including a mix of some fan favorites along with some new characters. What follows will be a review of the figures that came in this wave, with the exception of Tiger Force Duke. **UPDATE** See Tiger Force Duke review at the end of this post.

1) Mutt & Junkyard — K-9 Officer & Attack Dog

  • Head/Forearms/Lower Body — New
  • Torso/Biceps/Waist — Cobra Viper (w7)

One of my favorites from the original line comes back to life with this great likeness. The detail is great, even down to the scar on his face. The only issue I have with this version is that his face mask looks a little too bulky and doesn’t cover his mouth and nose convincingly. It’s a small gripe to this overall excellent figure. ***1/2
