About

This blog exists solely to legitimize my collecting habits. I watch lots of DVDs, movies, and collect lots of toys.  I hope to review them all as I experience them and share that experience with whomever chances upon these posts and pages.

  1. Hello!

I am writing you in regard to your review of Deathdream (aka: Dead of Night). I recently finished my graduate program to earn my Master’s Degree and one of the requirements for doing so is to write a scholarly paper. I chose to write mine on Deathdream. I plan to further expand on my paper and this is why I write you. What I would like to do is ask you a few questions and (potentially) include your responses in my paper. If this is okay with you, would you mind filling out the following questionnaire I wrote for this purpose? If not, I completely understand! Thank you for taking the time to read this, either way.

    1) When did you first hear about the film?

    2) When did you first see Deathdream?

    3) Why did you decide to write your review for Deathdream?
    a) Would you change anything you said in your review (now that time has passed since you initially wrote it)?
    b) Would you add anything to it? If yes, what would that be and why?

    4) What do you consider to be the first anti-Vietnam War film (even if you are incorrect, I only want the name of the film you consider to be the first)?
    a) Why do you think this was the first anti-Vietnam War film?

    5) Deathdream was largely ignored upon its initial release. Why do you think this happened?

    6) What do you think are the strengths of Deathdream?
    a) The weaknesses?
    b) If there was a way to improve either the strengths or weaknesses, what would you do and/or what do you think the filmmakers should have done to accomplish this? If yes, why do you feel this way?

    7) What do you think is the overall message (or messages) of the film?

    8) Do you feel the film relates to the current Iraq war? How and why?

    9) Why do you think the filmmakers decided to use a “zombie” as the type of monster Andy turns into?
    a) Do you feel this was a good choice or would you have turned Andy into a different creature/format/historical figure/etc.? If yes, why do you feel this way?

    10) Is there anything else you would like to say? If so, go for it!
